Herons and Cormorants

Next stop, after a short drive, was a heron and cormorant colony.  It was very noisy and smelled strongly of ammonia, which reminded me of a penguin colony.  Most of the trees held nesting cormorants and we spotted a few herons, mostly on the ground.

Back on the bus, Dzintars missed a left turn and continued straight on until the border with Russia came into view.  This is the Kaliningrad Oblast, a part of Russia which stands separate from the rest of the country.  Very few of us had visas to enter Russia, but Dzintars was able to execute a u-turn and we headed back into Lithuania.
