We were introduced to the people
who were on the land only tour. One of
them was Charlie, from Christchurch. He
was proudly wearing a “Heritage Expeditions” sweatshirt, because he had been
the ship’s doctor on one of their Antarctic trips. This gave us some common ground and we both
knew Rodney, Aaron and Nathan Russ.
Everyone spent a long time chatting, but eventually we headed off back
to the old town for dinner.
Dinner was at the Kuldse Notsu
Kőrts, which means the Golden Piglet Inn.
It specialised in pork and even has window boxes shaped like pigs. Luckily it had some veggie options and I
chose the stew. It was not as large as
the waiter had implied, but it tasted very nice. I wasn’t impressed by the Estonian lemonade
though. David and Dulcie had huge lumps
of meat and were still eating, long after the rest of us had all finished. At the end, the waiter impressed us by being
able to cope efficiently with individual bills.

While we were waiting for our
food, Aija asked us to introduce ourselves.
There were some very well-travelled people in the group, especially Sue
who was on her 24th Explore tour.
It was interesting to find that we had almost all done our piece before
someone introduced themselves by mentioning their family as a defining
factor. That was Angie, who with her husband Harry,
came from Australia. Most of the rest of
us defined ourselves by our work and our travels.
On the walk back, we called in at
the Rimi Supermarket to buy some bottled water.
I had a cranberry juice at the hotel and then it was time for bed.
