Drenched in Tartu
Dome Church |
Dome Church |
We walked up a hill to the Dome Church, trying
to avoid the river and waterfall caused by the rain running down the steps. Although in ruins, part of the church is
covered, so we stood in the dry and got a long history lesson.
But we couldn’t hide for ever and, eventually,
had to make our way back down the hill to the main university building, where
we stood inside the foyer. Inkari did
her best to tell us as much as possible, but the rain put a real dampener on
her tour.

Hot Chocolate in Werner Café-Lounge |
When there was nothing more Inkari could say without
having to take us outside to get soaked, we dispersed for coffee. She pointed out two places and recommended
the Werner Café-Lounge for those who liked cakes. Needless to say, I was one of the people who
went there.
We went upstairs, looking like drowned
rats. I sat with May, Sue, Ian and
Charlie and ordered a hot chocolate and a capuccino creme cake. To make it last, we ordered another round and
I had another hot chocolate. It was all
very yummy. Unfortunately, the upstairs
room was booked for a function at 16.30 and we had to go.

Pig outside Meat Market |
May, Sue, Charlie and I made our way back to the
hotel. We walked onto the arched
Kaarsild Bridge and then along the river, before veering off to the market,
which has a large statue of a pig outside.
A brief look at the market told us that it was just a large
butchers. I guess the pig should have
given us a clue, because the statue is marked with the various cuts of meat
that you get. So we went into the nearby
shopping centre, which was quite difficult to reach because of the main roads
surrounding it. We had a brief look
round and the others went back to the hotel, while I got some more water from
Rimi, the supermarket.
